So I have an unhealthy obsession with the "Guardians of the Galaxy" character, Nebula. Out of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters she's always the one that comes to mind first when I think of beauty, power, and weird. This is mostly due to Karen Gillian's portrayal of Nebula. As Nebula, Gillian is angry, hurt, vulnerable, indestructible, beastly, and beautiful.
A big part of it, aside from the personality and performance, is the make-up involved with the character. With Nebula's sister, Gamora, we see a bit of familiarity because popular culture has fetishized "green space ladies" for decades now, going back to the original "Star Trek". Nebula looks more like an alien than anyone else in the main Guardians cast. Her skin tones vary, cybernetic parts are grafted onto her like some sort of Frankenstein's monster, and her eyes are so pitch black they look like spacious caverns that go on forever. When you compare Nebula to the rest of the cast, there's definite a feeling of separation. Even though the other Guardians are essentially a motley crew of outcasts, Nebula seems even more outcast than they do.
Below are some images from multiple sources. Does anyone else feel like I do about Nebula? I wonder.
